Audience Research - results and analysis of results

This bar chart shows how many times each of these different magazine names were rated the highest, as 'Underdog' was rated the highest i will use this as the magazine name for my final piece as it was rated highest by the target audience.

This bar chart shows the amount of times each of the different music genre's was rated the highest. Indie rock was rated the highest by my target audience and is suitable for my magazine's purpose of showing up coming bands and ones to watch. So for this i have chosen too use this music genre in my magazine.

As '4' was the level of interest voted the most for reading about up coming bands and artists to watch indicates that people would be interested in buying a magazine based on these topics.

Black, red and white was rated the highest when asked which colour scheme appeals to them for a magazine cover. I have chose to use this colour scheme as my target audience rated this the highest. Aswell as it meeting upto leading music magazine's front cover and content page conventions, of using 3-5 colours which are consistant through out the magazine.

This bar chart shows which font was preffered by the target audience. Doing this, this doesn't mean that the font which was preffered the most will be used in my magazine, it was just to help me see which different font styles were preffered.

The highest price the target audience would be williing to pay was £2.00, I believe this is suitable for my magazine as my target audience is students aged 16-19, and would be able to afford this on a student budget.

In my opinion I believe that the NME cover was rated the highest as it's appealing to students from the ages 16 and above.
This being voted the most by the target audience, i will try to use some connotations of this on my magazine front cover.

Initial plans for my magazine.

Ones to watch.......  Sound System........   The Base........     Underdog..........

These were my initial music magazine names which i put into a questionaire to see what the target audience thought about them.

My magazine will be foccusing on up and coming and ones to watch bands. The genre of music my magazine will focus on will be indie/rock. My magazine will help up coming bands get the recognition they deserve/need to make it bigger. Also Indie/Rock artist which have brought out new albums/songs which have been succesfull and are worth listening to will be mentioned in the magazine.

My double page spread and front cover will consist of an interview and review of an upcoming artist.
My target audience will be students aged 16-20 and will include offerrs and promotions to draw students to buy it. Also i am planning to price the magazine at £2.00 as i believe this is suitable for a student budget, aswell as being cheaper than leading music magazines.

Once every 2 weeks ive decided to publish my magazine to keep upto date with what my magazine aims to do, also this will keep my target audience updated and interested.
The NME uses 65-70 pages for its magazines, i will use around 50 so my magazine will be shorter but filled with more bands, information and interviews and with less advertisements.

Research into magazine industry

Magazine industry -  In the UK there are over 3000 different “consumer” magazines, but a large amount of the main magazines are owned and published by a small group of companies. These companies are usually in competition with each other. Magazines make most of their money through selling advertising spaces. Advertisers like magazines because they enable them to reach very specific “niche” audiences.
IPC Media publish both the  NME and Uncut Music magazines. Bauer Media publish Mojo, Kerrang and Q music magazines which are all main popular music magazines purchased and read by the public. Future media publishing publish magazines on instruments and genres of music such as Classic rock and Computer Music.
